Road Speed Limiters

Are you ready for the new rules?

From the 1st. January 2007 the following vehicles require a road speed limiter by law:

Vehicles registered between 1 October 2001 and 31 December 2004

Goods vehicles with a gross design weight of above 3.5 tonnes and below 7.5 tonnes used on national journeys

Passenger vehicles fitted with more than eight passenger seats used on national journeys

The VDO RSL II is the most widely used "mechanical" system.  It was installed on thousands of vehicles during the retrofit period and as an original equipment system on Mercedes, Leyland Daf, ERF and many other vehicle types. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 
VDO Pedal Interface
Road speed limiter and engine speed control for new engine generation. This system consists of an electronic control device which is installed between the pedal unit or pedal value sensor and the engine control unit. It influences engine management by electronically modifying the position signal received from the pedal unit. Can only be installed in vehicles that have been tested and approved by Siemens VDO Automotive Service and Special Solutions.

 

 

Legislation requires road speed limiters to be fitted to goods and passenger carrying vehicles in the following categories (click on the links to VOSA website for up to date information on set speeds, fitment dates etc):  

  Goods vehicles        Passenger vehicles (Buses and Coaches)
